Latest Forecast from IRLCO-CSA – 4th March 2014
SYNOPSIS: Outbreaks reported in Tanzania, quiet in Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Current situation:
TANZANIA: African armyworm outbreaks occurred in Tanga and Coast (Bagamoyo district) Regions where 490 ha were infested. Control was carried out by the affected farmers with technical assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture Food Security and Cooperative.
KENYA, MALAWI, MOZAMBIQUE, ZAMBIA & ZIMBABWE: There were no reports of Armyworm outbreaks received from these Member Countries during the month.
Outlook for Mar-May 2014:
Armyworm outbreaks are likely to occur in Kenya and Tanzania while isolated
late outbreaks of the pest may occur in Malawi and Mozambique.
