Latest African and Fall Armyworm Forecast from IRLCO-CSA – 4th Sep 2017
SYNOPSIS:
The region remained free from African Armyworm, Spodoptera exempta Walker, outbreaks while damage from the Fall Armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (JE Smith) was reported in Zimbabwe and Kenya.

CURRENT SITUATION:
FALL ARMYWORM:
Fall Armyworm infestations continued to be reported in Kenya and Zimbabwe damaging irrigated maize. Control was being undertaken by the affected farmers with technical and material assistance from the Ministries of Agriculture.
AFRICAN ARMYWORM:
There were no reports of African Armyworm outbreaks in any of the IRLCO-CSA Member Countries.

OUTLOOK (Sep – Nov 2017):
African Armyworm outbreaks are expected to start from November when seasonal rains commence in most Member Countries. The IRLCO-CSA will procure pheromone traps for Member Countries to enable them to conduct monitoring and forecasting of pest.
Fall Armyworm infestations are likely to continue in areas where irrigated cropping is being carried out.
