Latest Forecast from ETOP – 5th May 2014

SYNOPSIS: Outbreaks continue in TANZANIA and KENYA. Further outbreaks expected northern TANZANIA, KENYA and possibly southern ETHIOPIA.

CURRENT SITUATION: African armyworm outbreaks occurred in Kilifi, Taita Taveta and Kwale Counties in Kenya, as well as in Arusha, Mtwara and Mbeya regions in Tanzania (IRLCO-CSA, PHS/Tanzania). Positive trap catches were reported in southern Ethiopia.

FORECAST UNTIL MID-JUNE 2014: African armyworm situation will likely remain calm in Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe and outbreaks will continue in northern Tanzania and Kenya, and perhaps begin appearing in southern Ethiopia towards the end of the forecast period (IRLCO-CSA, DLCO-EA, OFDA/AELGA, PHS/Tanzania).
