Latest Armyworm Forecast from IRLCO-CSA (Aug 2018)
Synopsis
Fall Armyworm (FAW) (Spodoptera frugiperda): FAW damage on maize continued to be reported in Kenya and control was ongoing.
African Armyworm (AAW) (Spodoptera exempta): There were no reports of AAW outbreaks in any of the IRLCO-CSA Member Countries.
Current Situation (up to end of July)
Fall Armyworm (FAW)
Kenya
FAW attacks continued on late-planted maize and control was being carried out by farmers with technical and material assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe
There were no reports of FAW damage on crops from these Member Countries.
African Armyworm (AAW)
There were no reports of AAW outbreaks in any of the IRLCO-CSA Member Countries.
Outlook (August – October 2018)
Fall Armyworm (FAW)
FAW may persist and cause damage to irrigated maize.
African Armyworm (AAW)
AAW outbreaks are not expected to occur during the outlook period.
