Latest African Armyworm Forecast from IRLCO-CSA – 4th May 2016
SYNOPSIS:
An outbreak of African armyworm (Spodoptera exempta, Walker) occurred in Taita Taveta County in Kenya last month, damaging pastures. Armyworm outbreaks may continue in Kenya and northern Tanzania. In other member States, the Armyworm outbreak season is over.

CURRENT SITUATION:
Kenya: Small-scale Armyworm outbreaks were reported from Taita Taveta county damaging pastures. Control was carried out by the affected farmers with assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Malawi, Mozambique,Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe: There were no reports of armyworm outbreaks from these countries.

OUTLOOK (May – Jul 2016):
Armyworm outbreaks may continue in Kenya and northern Tanzania. In other member States, the Armyworm outbreak season is over.
