Latest African Armyworm Forecast from IRLCO-CSA – 3rd Sep 2015

SYNOPSIS: There were no reports of Armyworm, Spodoptera exempta Walker, outbreaks in any Member countriy. Member Countries are advised to commence servicing their pheromone traps in preparation for the start of the armyworm outbreak season expected in November/December.

CURRENT SITUATION:

There were no reports of Armyworm outbreaks causing damage to cereal crops in these Member Countries.

OUTLOOK (Sep – Nov 2015):

Armyworm outbreaks may start during November in Tanzania and Kenya which receive early rains. From mid-November, seasonal rains which are expected to commence in northern parts of Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique, will increase the likelihood of armyworm outbreaks. Member countries are advised to unsure that monitoring of Armyworm moths using pheromone traps is operational by November 2015.
