Latest African Armyworm Forecast from IRLCO-CSA – 4th Dec 2015

SYNOPSIS:
There were no reports of African armyworm (Spodoptera exempta, Walker) outbreaks from any IRLCO-CSA Member countries. High probability of outbreaks in Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

CURRENT SITUATION:

There were no reports of armyworm outbreak in any Member country. Monitoring of armyworm moths using pheromone traps was underway in all Member countries.

OUTLOOK (Dec 2015 – Feb 2016):

There is high probability of Armyworm outbreaks in Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe during the period from December 2015 to February 2016. National forecasting units in Member States are advised to intensify monitoring using pheromone traps during this period. There will be less chances of Armyworm outbreaks in Kenya as the short rain season comes to an end.
