Latest Armyworm Forecast from IRLCO-CSA (Sep 2018)
Synopsis
Fall Armyworm (FAW) (Spodoptera frugiperda): FAW attack on irrigated maize continue to be reported in Member Countries where maize was being grown under irrigation.
African Armyworm (AAW) (Spodoptera exempta): There were no reports of AAW outbreaks in any of the IRLCO-CSA Member Countries.
Current Situation (up to end of July)
Fall Armyworm (FAW)
Fall Armyworm attacks continued to be reported from areas where maize is grown under irrigation. Control was carried out by the affected farmers with technical and material assistance from the Ministries of Agriculture.
African Armyworm (AAW)
There were no reports of AAW outbreaks in any of the IRLCO-CSA Member Countries.
Outlook (September – November 2018)
Fall Armyworm (FAW)
FAW attack on irrigated maize is likely to continue.
African Armyworm (AAW)
The IRLCO-CSA region is likely to be free from AAW outbreaks.
Armyworm trap operators are requested to service their traps, to monitor the traps and to submit their moth catches to their respective national forecasting officers.
